India has officially launched the seventh edition of Poshan Pakhwada 2025, a 15-day nationwide campaign that will run from April 8 to April 22, aiming to combat the twin challenges of malnutrition and anemia nationwide. Spearheaded by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development, the initiative marks a significant step in India's long-term commitment to building a healthier, stronger, and nutritionally secure nation.
Impact of Poshan Pakhwada 2025
Every year, thousands of children and women in India suffer the adverse effects of undernourishment, anemia, and lifestyle-related health issues. Recognizing the urgency, this year’s Poshan Pakhwada focuses on four high-impact themes:
- The First 1,000 Days of Life – These formative days are critical for long-term physical and cognitive development. Special interventions during this period can reduce stunting and build a foundation for lifelong health.
- Popularising the Poshan Tracker's Beneficiary Module – The enhanced Poshan Tracker will play a vital role in monitoring nutrition outcomes and streamlining service delivery for millions of Anganwadi beneficiaries across India.
- Community-Based Management of Malnutrition – A robust community engagement strategy will empower frontline workers to identify, manage, and support malnourished children within their immediate environments.
- Addressing Childhood Obesity – With rising cases of childhood obesity, the campaign promotes healthy eating habits, physical activity, and digital wellness.
The campaign was formally inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Women and Child Development Savitri Thakur through a nationwide webcast, bringing together officials from 18 partner ministries, state WCD departments, and thousands of Anganwadi workers.
Union Minister Annpurna Devi will visit Arunachal Pradesh during the campaign's first week to evaluate on-ground implementation and support vulnerable tribal and rural communities.
Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0
This year’s Poshan Pakhwada is part of the broader Mission Saksham Anganwadi and Poshan 2.0, designed to strengthen child development services, boost maternal and child nutrition, and encourage active community participation.
Activities include:
- Village-level health and nutrition drives
- Door-to-door awareness campaigns
- Home visits by health workers
- Interactive workshops and nutrition festivals
