BTS, the global K-pop sensation, is finally preparing for a highly anticipated full-group comeback in 2026. The moment comes as all seven members have now completed South Korea’s mandatory military service, closing a chapter that began in 2022. With the discharge of Min Yoongi, known to millions as Suga, fans across the world can now look forward to an emotional and powerful reunion.

Suga Discharged After Completing Alternative Military Service

Suga, also known by his solo name Agust D, was the final BTS member to complete his national duty. Unlike his fellow members who served in the South Korean army, Suga served as a social service agent. This alternative form of service was assigned to him due to a prior shoulder injury and surgery that made him ineligible for active duty.

Although his official discharge date is marked as Saturday, June 21, 2025, Suga completed his duties earlier by using his pending leave days. Big Hit Music, under HYBE, confirmed the completion but refrained from hosting a public event due to safety concerns regarding possible overcrowding. The decision was received with understanding, especially given the group's immense popularity and the potential security risks a large gathering could pose.

The enlistment journey of BTS began with Jin, the eldest member, who enlisted in December 2022 and was discharged in June 2024. J-Hope followed soon after and completed his service by October 2024. As 2023 came to a close, the remaining five members, V, Jimin, Jungkook, and Suga, began their military journey in December.

RM (Kim Namjoon) and V (Kim Taehyung) were discharged on June 10, 2025. Just a day later, on June 11, both Jimin and Jungkook completed their service. With Suga wrapping up shortly after on June 21, all members of BTS are now officially out of the conscription system. This sequential return has reignited hope for a group comeback, and discussions around BTS's future have intensified online.

A Look at the Military Law Behind Their Service

South Korea mandates that all able-bodied men aged 18 to 28 must serve between 18 and 21 months in the military. While exemptions exist for Olympic medalists and classical artists, pop idols, no matter how globally influential were historically excluded from such relief.

In 2020, a revision in South Korea’s Military Service Act allowed prominent entertainers to delay enlistment until the age of 30. This change notably benefited BTS, enabling the group to extend their active music era before taking a break for their civic responsibilities. However, despite this allowance, there was ongoing debate in 2022 about whether BTS should receive a complete exemption.

Eventually, in October 2022, the band and their agency publicly announced that all seven members would enlist as required. This act of duty and humility resonated with fans and citizens alike, reinforcing their commitment to their country as much as to their craft.

BTS Is Finally Coming Back: What to Expect in 2026?

With military obligations now complete, all eyes are on BTS’s next steps. Industry reports and fan theories alike point toward a group reunion in early 2026, possibly around March. Though Big Hit Music has not yet confirmed any comeback date, the groundwork appears to be quietly taking shape behind the scenes.

Fans can likely expect a return to full-group music projects, celebratory events marking over a decade of BTS’s legacy, and possibly an international tour that would reconnect the band with their global fanbase, known affectionately as ARMY. As the band moves beyond their military hiatus, their return has the potential to reshape not just K-pop but the broader landscape of international music in 2026.

With Suga now officially discharged and all members free to resume artistic activities, the BTS comeback in 2026 could become one of the most significant events in modern pop culture. Their story from rising trainees to global icons, to patriotic citizens fulfilling their national duty is a testament to their dedication and authenticity.

As anticipation builds, fans around the world are not just waiting for new music; they’re waiting for a moment in history. The countdown to BTS's comeback has truly begun.
