Apple iPhone Air vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge: The Battle for the Thinnest Phone of 2025

The year 2025 is very special for the smartphone industry. Apple introduced the iPhone Air in its recent "Awe Dropping" event, which competes directly with the already existing Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. Both phones have come with a very thin, premium and attractive design, but the question is which of these is better?

Design and Build Quality:

The iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever, with a thickness of between 5.5mm to 5.6mm. It is even thinner than the Galaxy S25 Edge, which is 5.8mm thick. Both phones have a titanium frame and glass back, but Apple has used Ceramic Shield 2 in it while Samsung has used Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. Talking about weight, the iPhone Air weighs only 145 grams while the S25 Edge weighs 163 grams. That is, the iPhone Air is at the forefront in terms of portability.

Display:

Both the phones come with excellent OLED displays. The iPhone Air has a 6.6-inch OLED screen with a resolution of 2740 x 1260 pixels. At the same time, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a 6.7-inch AMOLED 2X display that supports QHD+ (1440 x 3120 pixels) resolution.

The biggest feature of the iPhone Air is its peak brightness of 3000 nits, which has not been found in any iPhone till now. Both the phones offer 120Hz refresh rate, but with the new Metalens technology and smaller camera cutout of the iPhone Air, it gives it an even more premium look.

Camera setup:

In the camera segment, both have different paths. The iPhone Air has only a 48MP single rear camera housed in a plateau bump design. At the same time, the Galaxy S25 Edge has a 200MP primary sensor and a 12MP ultra-wide lens. Talking about the selfie camera, the iPhone Air has an 18MP front camera with Apple's AI Center Stage feature. Samsung has given a 12MP front camera in the S25 Edge. That is, Samsung is ahead in terms of camera versatility, but Apple emphasizes on simplicity and AI features.

Performance:

The iPhone Air has Apple's new A19 or A19 Pro chipset which gives strong performance and better efficiency. It also has 12GB RAM and a new C1 modem. The Galaxy S25 Edge has a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and 12GB RAM. Both the processors are flagship level, but when it comes to raw performance, Apple's A19 chip is considered slightly ahead.

Battery and Price:

The biggest disadvantage of the ultra-thin design is the battery capacity. The iPhone Air has only a 2800mAh battery, while Samsung has installed a 3900mAh battery in the S25 Edge. Samsung is clearly better in terms of battery backup. Talking about the price, the starting price of iPhone Air is $999 (Rs 1,19,900) while the price of Galaxy S25 Edge starts at Rs 1,09,999. That is, iPhone is definitely a bit expensive but Apple's brand value and new features make it premium.
