Recently, tensions between the US and Iran have reached their peak. Former US President Donald Trump has claimed that the US has carried out precise and successful air strikes on Iran's three major nuclear bases Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan. However, Iran has rejected these claims and said that it had evacuated these bases before the attack.

The weapon that is being discussed the most in this entire incident is the GBU-57, which is called the 'Massive Ordnance Penetrator'. It is one of America's deadliest and heaviest bombs which is specially designed to destroy targets built at depth. It is launched from B-2 stealth bombers which fly from Whiteman Airbase in Missouri.
GBU-57 is specially designed to destroy underground bunkers and tunnels. It weighs around 13,600 kg and is capable of penetrating 61 meters below the ground and causing an explosion. Its surface is so strong that it does not break even if it penetrates the ground at high speed.

The process of dropping this bomb is extremely precise. The target is determined through satellite navigation and the bomb is dropped from a height to a depth. The delay fuse mechanism present in the bomb ensures that the explosion takes place at the specified depth. Often more than one bomb is dropped in an attack, the first to clear the path and the rest for complete destruction.
According to Reuters, US officials have confirmed that B-2 stealth bombers were used in this attack. Earlier there were reports that the US had sent these bombers to Guam. It is believed that weapons like GBU-57 would have been used on mountainous underground bases like Fordo in Iran.

Donald Trump claimed on his social media platform 'Truth Social' that all missions were successful and all his planes returned safely. He congratulated the American forces and said, "Now is the time for peace."

Iran said that there was no major damage from the US attacks because all sensitive nuclear material had already been removed from there. A senior official of the government television channel said that even though bombs fell in areas like Fordo, there was no major damage.

According to BBC reporter Mark Lowen, this incident marks a major turning point in the relations between the US, Iran and Israel. The US has more than 40,000 troops deployed in the Middle East who are now on high alert. Also, Yemen's Houthi rebels have warned that if attacks on Iran continue, they will target US ships in the Red Sea.
