The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) has named a 14-man men's national squad for the upcoming ICC Men's T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers, which will be held in Oman from February 15th to February 25th, 2022. The UAE will compete in the eight-nation qualifiers for one of the two available qualification spots into the first round of the 2022 Men's T20 World Cup in Australia, for which the groupings and schedule have been released. The UAE squad will arrive in Oman much earlier, as they will play a three-match ODI series against their hosts from February 5th to February 8th, followed by a four-nation T20I quadrangular series in Oman against their hosts, Nepal, and Ireland as part of their preparations for the Global qualifiers.

After 2014, this is the UAE's second appearance in a T20 World Cup. They were in the same group as Zimbabwe, Ireland, and the Netherlands at the time, and they lost every match by wide margins. They are in Group A of the First Round this time, along with Sri Lanka, Namibia, and the Netherlands. From this group, two teams will advance to the Super 12s. The UAE will play their first round matches at Kardinia Park in Geelong on October 16, 18, and 20.
The UAE recently failed to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 after losing qualifiers to Kuwait and Hong Kong. Some of their key players include Zahoor Khan, Vriitya Aravind, Muhammad Waseem, and Chirag Suri.
Mustafa was not named to the UAE squad for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, which will be led by CP Rizwan. The veteran 33-year-old had played for UAE as recently as last month, but was dropped from the starting XI during the Asia Cup qualifiers in Oman.
The UAE's true strength lies in their all-rounders, which include Kashif Daud, Basil Hameed, Aayan Afzal Khan, Aryan Lakra, and Zawar Farid. Choosing all five, or at least four, will provide excellent balance to their team.
