Lockie Ferguson, Michael Bracewell, and Finn Allen replaced Kyle Jamieson, Todd Astle, and Tim Seifert in the Black Caps squad that competed in the final of the 2021 T20 World Cup, respectively.

Devon Conway will be the starting wicketkeeper, while Mark Chapman and Ish Sodhi have been retained. Veteran Martin Guptill will take over as opener, becoming the first New Zealander to appear in seven men's T20 World Cups. Kane Williamson, the regular captain, will lead the team.
