Sunil Gavaskar wants KL Rahul to be India’s Wicket Keeper for the WTC Final

Two years of dominating cricket made the India Cricket Team the first team to reach the final of the World Test Championship for the second time. They have played a sensational brand of Test cricket over the last couple of years, and they will now face Australia in the main event at The Oval, England, from the 7th to the 11th of June.

Speaking about the big cricketing action scheduled to be played in a neutral venue, it is important to say that betting on this game will be something that most cricketing fans will be looking forward to. Therefore, before looking for the right platform to progress your cricket betting skills, we highly recommend you read about the top betting sites in India and make sure you place your bets with a safe site.

Coming back to cricket, losing the inaugural WTC final to New Zealand created a lot of negative fuss back home in India and this time it will be an extremely crucial game for the men in blue.

Unfortunately, when picking the team squad for the big final, the absence of Rishabh Pant will affect the team selection as it leaves a massive void in the middle order. The wicketkeeper-batter met with an accident in December last year and has been ruled out from cricket for around 8-9 months.

Rishabh’s absence was apparent in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. KS Bharat got the opportunity in his place, but it’s fair to say that the right-hander didn’t fill up the shoes as he looked ordinary with the bat and dropped a few catches with the gloves. He scored 101 runs from six innings at a mediocre average of 20.20.

KL Rahul has not been in the best form, which saw him lose his position as the vice-captain of the Test side after the first two games against Australia. Rahul was also dropped from the final two Tests. But now that India has qualified for the World Test Championship, there are suggestions that Rahul should replace young KS Bharat as the front-line wicketkeeper.

On Sports Tak, Gavaskar said, “You can see KL Rahul as a wicketkeeper. If he bats at No.5 or 6 in the Oval (in the WTC final), our batting will be stronger because he batted well in England last year. He scored a century at the Lord’s. Keep KL Rahul in mind when you pick your XI for the WTC final.”

Rahul has been keeping for India in ODI cricket and bats in the middle order. He has never kept in Test match cricket for India.

Gavaskar pointing out KL Rahul's ability to play well in England last year against the moving ball makes the suggestion more viable. Rahul and Rohit Sharma were sublime in last year's tour to England and played brilliantly together to set the games for India at the top. Rahul scored 315 runs at an average of 39.38 in the series, with a magnificent ton at the Lords.

Having said this all, all three Indian wicket-keeping options for the WTC final, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and KS Bharat, will be part of different IPL franchises. They will be contesting against each other in the big IPL event between the ends of March and May. The cricketers' forms and mindsets will be examined throughout the tournament, and the head coach, Rahul Dravid, will be heavily tasked with picking the right candidate for the spot when the day arrives.
