Every year, World Rainforest Day 2026 is observed on June 22 around the world to raise awareness about the importance of rainforests and their role in nature.
The day was started in 2017 by the Rainforest Partnership to raise awareness about the dangers to the ecosystem including deforestation and climate change.
A rainforest is typically a dense forest which is not only warm but also wet and typically receives over 2,000 mm of rain per year, and is unlike regular forest.
Tropical and temperate rainforests cover 10 per cent and lesser of the Earth`s surface but are known to house more than half of the planet`s species.
The biggest rainforest in the world is the Amazon, and has a glass frog and pygmy marmoset; Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve is the smallest rainforest in the world.
