Every year, World Idli Day 2026 is observed on March 30 not only in India but around the world to celebrate the unique south Indian dish.
The day originated in 2015 after a caterer Eniyavan made 1,328 types of idlis on March 30 to promote the delicious dish.
While it is very popular today in South India, there are two different theories of its origin including the Indonesian dish kedli, and iddalige in Karnataka.
There are many types of idlis that have been made of time but rava idli, ragi idli and thatte idli are some of the most popular varieties.
Idlis are known to improve digestive health because of being high in fibre, low in calories, and is a natural source of protein.
