The history of Indian forts is not limited merely to stone walls.
Rather, it is a living testament to India's ancient military might, architecture, and cultural heritage.
India's largest fort is the Chittorgarh Fort, which is located in the Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan.
This fort spans a vast area of approximately 700 acres (280 hectares).
It is situated on a mesa plateau, at an elevation of approximately 180 meters (590 feet) above the plains.
It is believed that the foundation of this fort was laid in the 7th century by the Mauryan ruler Chitrangad Maurya.
It remained the capital of the Mewar Kingdom for centuries and served as the center of Rajput pride, glory, and grandeur.
It is included in UNESCO's World Heritage List.
It is also known as the 'Water Fort,' as it originally contained 84 water bodies (ponds, wells, and stepwells).
