Snakes are one of the most mysterious creatures in the world and in India they hold major cultural and mythological importance.
Because of the country’s weather, snakes thrive in India, inhabiting diverse ecosystems.
There are some states that are known for their high diversity of snake populations.
Kerala and Karnataka boast significant snake populations. Karnataka’s Agumbe is known for its high cobra population, also termed as the 'Cobra Capital of India'.
Nagaland and Meghalaya are biodiversity hotspots, with Nagaland harbouring 65 snake species and Meghalaya exhibiting ongoing discoveries of new venomous serpents.
Uttarakhand has more than 30 snake species , showcasing the state's rich reptilian diversity.
In central India, MP, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand host a varied range of snakes.
Cobras and vipers are very common in the Western and Eastern Ghats in jungles, swamps, and rainforests.
