Rajasthan Day 2026 is observed on March 30 every year to mark the day that its princely states of Jodhpur, Jaipur, Jaisalmer and Bikaner became part of it.
Rajasthan was formed on March 30 in 1949 when it was called `Greater Rajasthan Union`, before it was formally made a state on November 1 in 1956.
It is also probably what inspired the name of the state, as Rajasthan means `Land of Kings`, long after it was called `Rajputana`, land of the Rajputs.
Rajasthan is the largest state in India by area as it covers 342, 239 square kilometres, followed by Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
While it was inaugurated by Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Shri Hiralal Shashtri was appointed as the first chief minister of the state.
