Every year, Palm Sunday is observed on the Sunday before Easter Sunday to mark the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem before his crucifixion.
Palm Sunday is being observed on March 29 this year, ahead of Easter, which will be observed on April 5, marking the important Christian festival.
The day marks the entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and also the start of the Holy Week which includes Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and Easter.
In India, the palms are blessed in the church, and depict the scene of people welcoming Jesus with the palms, after he arrives on a donkey in Jersalem.
The mass service also sees the reading of the `Passion of Christ` depicting the final days of Jesus with his suffering and death before his resurrection.
