The Afghanistan Cricket Board has appointed experienced middle-order batter Rahmat Shah as the new Test and ODI captain.
Wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been officially named the vice-captain for both the Test and ODI formats.
Rahmat succeeds Hashmatullah Shahidi, who recently resigned after leading Afghanistan to unprecedented success, including historic World Cup victories.
Debuting in 2013, Rahmat brings massive international experience, having already represented Afghanistan in 128 ODIs and 12 Tests.
Rahmat Shah will begin his new leadership role during Afghanistan's upcoming five-match ODI series against Ireland in August.
