Jagannath temple in Puri is one of the four spiritual sites of Char Dham Yatra. The other three are Badrinath, Dwarka and Rameshwaram.
The idols of the three deities in the temple – Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra – are carved out of wood and are in incomplete form.
According to the Odisha Tourism website, the temple is constructed in such a way that it doesn’t cast any shadow on the ground at any time of the day.
The flag of the temple is changed daily at sunset. According to popular beliefs, the flag always seems to flutter in the opposite direction of the wind.
The blue wheel, called Nilachakra, perched atop the spire of the temple is crafted from an alloy of eight metals, known as ashta dhatu.
