The three lowest-ranked ODI teams will battle in a preliminary round. Only the winner advances to join the top 11 nations in the main stage.

Introduction of the 'Super 7'

Replacing the Super 6, seven top teams will advance from the group stage to play a complete round-robin league before the semi-finals.

T20 World Cup Evolution

The 20-team T20 World Cup opening round now features five groups of four teams. The top two from each group will advance.

'Super 10' and Crossover Eliminators

The Super 10 features two groups of five. Group winners reach semi-finals directly, while second and third-placed teams battle in crossover eliminators.
