Former champion Stan Wawrinka bowed out of Roland Garros for the final time with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 defeat to Jesper de Jong.
Tributes flew in for the Swiss star, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal both sending congratulatory messages to Wawrinka.
Stan Wawrinka won his lone French Open men`s singles title at Roland Garros in 2015 when he defeated Djokovic in the final.
Home favourite Gael Monfils also played the last match at the French Open as his journey was cut short with a 6-2, 6-3, 3-6, 2-6, 6-0 defeat against Hugo Gaston.
After his defeat, the French Open honoured the Frenchman for his contribution to the tournament with a small ceremony.
