Every year, National Black Forest Cake Day 2026 is observed on March 28 to celebrate the unique German cake.
While the origin of the day isn`t known, it is observed to pay tribute to the German dessert Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte but called Black Forest cake in English.
Black Forest Cake is traditionally made with chocolate, whipped cream, cherries, and cherry liqueur, and is known to be invented by pastry chef Josef Keller.
It is one of the most popular cakes in India especially at birthday parties in the 90s, but the alcohol is replaced with sugar syrup.
Over the years, the cake has been made eggless for vegetarians, while also adding fruits, and even the usage of rum instead of the liqueur.
