ODI World Cup 2023 has become the most successful event in the history of ICC. This World Cup has broken the broadcast and digital records of all the previous ICC events. For the first time in any ICC tournament, the mark of one trillion live minutes on TV (broadcast) has been crossed. That means fans watched a total of more than one lakh crore minutes of live matches.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) gave this information on Tuesday through its website and Twitter. This was 38% more than the Cricket World Cup held in India in 2011. Compared to the last World Cup 2019 held in England, this time also got 17% audience.

The India-Australia final match alone got a total of 8,760 crore live minutes

The final match between India and Australia on 19 November received a total of 8,760 crore live minutes. This was 46% more than the 2011 World Cup final. The fans of host India contributed the most in this. Indians watched 42,200 crore minutes of matches on Disney Star network alone. This is also 54% more minutes than 2011 and 9% more minutes than 2019

Records broken on OTT too

The tournament also broke records on digital platforms. It has become the most watched ICC event ever with 16.9 billion video views on digital. The World Cup final match played between India and Australia on November 19 broke all viewership records.

At one time, a record more than 5.9 crore people were watching it live on the OTT platform Disney Plus Hotstar. Till now, so many people had never watched any cricket match live on OTT. However, as the match started going in Australia's favor, the number of viewers decreased.

Earlier this record was in the name of India-New Zealand semi-final match played on November 15 in this World Cup, which was watched by about 5.3 crore people on OTT. At the same time, about 1.3 lakh spectators were present in the final match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The broadcasting rights of World Cup matches were with Star Sports Network. Apart from this, you could watch live streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar. Hotstar had announced on June 9 that users will be able to watch all the matches of Asia Cup and ICC Men's Cricket ODI World Cup for free on the mobile app.

To increase its viewership, Hotstar had tried the method of Mukesh Ambani's OTT platform Jio Cinema. Jio Cinema had shown all the matches of IPL 2023 for free, due to which the company got record viewership.

Star has the rights of ICC tournaments till 2027

Talking about the men's ICC tournament, Star has the digital rights till 2027. The current deal includes T-20 World Cup of 2024 and 2026, ODI World Cup of 2027, Champions Trophy of 2025. Apart from these, the final matches of the World Test Championship to be held in 2025 and 2027 are also part of this deal. Women's tournaments include the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups, the 2025 ODI World Cup and the 2027 T20 Champions Trophy.
